ALBUM – MISSISSIPPI TO FLORIDA

These photos are from Leg 2. November 25 to December 9th.

We are in the process of moving LaNostra from Columbus, Mississippi to Panama City, Florida.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 5

Our view from the back of the boat.  Destin, Florida is called the Redneck Riviera.

Backing out of our slip this morning @ 7:30 am.

We get really close to these sand bars.  The depth finder has melt downs when the depth gets close to zero!  So does the captain & crew!

We arrived in short sleeves.  We left in North Face Down Parkas!

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4

Our view has changed …….. We are in Pensacola, Florida.

Water & shore line sure is different than the rivers.

These 3 dolphins gave us a show & enjoyed following our boat for miles.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3

We crossed the Gulf Of Mexico today.  Our 1st dolphin sighting.

Hurricane Katrina damage in Mobile, Alabama.

Bad day for these boats.

Entering Mobile Bay – official end of the river leg.

Container ships being loaded in Mobile Bay.   These ships make the river barges look small.

Oh my, they unloaded paper for Dave Riebe.

Katrina damaged oil rig being repaired in Mobile Bay.

We found The Grandpa Woo in Mobile Bay.  Bennett Stadler called Scott’s dad Lew, Grandpa Woo.  Frank was Grandpa Motorcycle.

Dream Catcher at anchor.  Our last anchor site on the rivers.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2

Beautiful Sunrise – taken at Bobby’s Fish Camp.

How are we going to get thru this Ollie?  We need to make a hard left to follow the river.  We have 2 barges between us and the bend.

See how close we get to these barges while the river bends.

Pipe barge with our friends we met at Bobby’s Fish Camp last night. This is how they move the under river pipe into position.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1

It’s 7 am  & we are heading to the Demopolis Lock & Dam

Little fog on the river today.

Queen of the Mist. Hanging out in the lock with a cup of coffee.  Notice the North Face parka. So much for the mission to follow summer.  We should be singing  “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

Dream Catcher in the lock – great waterfall from the doors. The doors were broken yesterday & kept us from traveling for an entire day.

One more lock after this one and we are in the Gulf of Mexico & done with the river.

Pretty waterfall outside the dam.

From beauty to garbage.  Why would anyone  throw garbage in the river? We only noticed this when we reached Alabama.

Disgusting.

Need some tires? Chris, tires for Zoom Zoom?

Don’t need this bus camper any more.

This bus camper might end up in the river someday too.

Kids are on this porch waving at us.  Frank said they might have crossed eyes. He thinks one of the kids looks like Jeff Schwartz!

We are at Bobby’s Fish Camp for the night.

Main Street, Bobby’s Fish Camp Alabama

Town Square, Bobby’s Fish Camp

River Front.  Pier holds 4 boats.

We had fender issues today.  Dream Catcher ended up with 3 of our runaway fenders.  Frank is bringing home the fenders. Sure is great having friends! Frank won’t do fenders anymore. My job.

Frank’s new business. Subsidiary of Tom & Joel’s Print Shop.

Frank’s Gun Shop – Demopolis, Alabama.  Notice the Ford F150 company car.

Cool old street – feels like a train should stop here. Exchange the bike for a horse.

Downtown Demopolis, Alabama.  Looks like Gun Smoke & The Wild WIld West.

Frank in the morning fog.  At anchor in Rattlesnake Bend. The morning after the flu. Recovers pretty quickly, huh.????

Frank & I  were on local Columbus MS, WBCI 6 & 10 PM news!

A local station interviewed us about our choice to dock @ Columbus Marina. I told them because it was snowing in Wisconsin.  Why not be here!
